As we had all individually analysed the features of a poster we were confident in creating one of our own and decided to brainstorm a few ideas of how we would like our poster to potentially look like.
When we presented our pitch to the class we came up with two poster ideas. One with the pranker in the middle and the other character surrounding her. And the other with the pranker on the left and the lake in the background.
We then drew these images by hand to explore and expirement with the way we wanted our poster to look.
The image below is an alternative version of the first draft poster idea, here we added dates and critical acclaim, our poster was starting to come together. We changed the positioning of the characters slightly to make the poster look less flat, and we added a torchlight into the title, as the torchlight is one of our main props.
The image below is a first draft of a second poster idea, which would be a teaser poster, we decided to come up with a tagline 'DARE TO CRY WOLF?', this tagline was placed at the top of the poster, and gives members of the public who know the story of 'THE BOY WHO CRIED' an idea of what the storyline of our film may be. We added a lake in the background as it's of importance to the ghost stroy within the film. Our title was made smaller as in this poster we wanted the audience to focus on the scared facial expression of the protagonist, and the anonymous hand on her shoulder. As we have a torchlight shining on the face of the protagonist we decided to remove the torchlight from the 'O' in the title 'Torches' as it looked much better with just one torchlight.
Here is a second/alternative draft of our second poster idea. Here we decided that we wanted the title to fill more the empty space, as we though it was a bit too recessive in the first draft of the second poster idea, and so we made it diagonal, we also developed the characters features, and added some greenery to the lake, so that we had a much clearer idea of how we wanted this poster to look like. Because of the title, we made our tagline smaller which makes our viewers more eager to read it as it's small.
Digital Poster Drafts
We have reached the stage where we have to try develop our poster ideas in digital and see how it would look. Fort this, we have used a DSLR camera to take photographs which we will use for posters. We took phorographs in studio which helped us get the lighting we want, which will make the posters look eerie. Also to complete the last stage of editig, we have used CS4 Photoshop to get all the other dtails for the posters such as text, background, compositio etc. The images below are the raw materials which we experimented with to develop the ideas of hand drawn ideas. Below there is a contact sheet of most succsesfull photos we took in studio.
This poster below was the first attempt of the main poster. As the idea was to set the film at the lake we have used a secondary source image of the lake to see how it will look. Also we've added stars titles and the credits to make the poster look as realistic. The USP of the poster was the starring. The characters are clearly named as well as the main character is highlighted in a solid white colour while others were in made in grey which made the main character's name stand out.
The poster below was a developement of earlier ideas. We have taken the photograph as we wanted with the hand on character's shoulder, although we did not use the hand in the actual poster because it didn't fit with the colours and it looked humurous. As it is a horror film we wated to loose all the tacky elements and keep the eeriness in the athmosphere. Also as well as in the first poster we have used secondary source image to experiment with the background and see how it will look with the trees as the idea has changed to setting the film in the forest.
Another idea from the previous poster was to add the other two characetrs into the poster. First we have attempted to merge the two characters next to eachother which then the poster looked a little empty so we decited to add the main character in it. The poster came out a teaser because we only added the date and also the title of the film. To make the synergy between the posters we have used a light instead of an O.
For the previous experimentation we have used secondary source images of the trees and the lake. We used those images to experiment with the colours and the composition of the poster. Also as the lake idea has changed we had to shoot in the locatioin where the film was set for the background.
It became our decision to keep the idea of the poster below, we thought the poster would attract the audiences, so we have added our own photograph for the background. We have edited this poster further to make it one of the main final posters.

The photographs below were used for the other main, teaser posters and the DVD cover.
After a long planning and experimentation time we have chosen what posters we wanted to be our finals. The syngergy between the posters is the torch light on the letter O which also indicates the genre of the film. By having an eerie athmosphere in the posters as well as as the character's facial expressions tell audiences that there will be alot of intriguing, mysterious and terrifying scenes. We kept our posters really colourless, so it will indicate the eerie athmosphere of the film.
